A profound truth is embedded in the age-old wisdom that “it is more blessed to give than to receive.” Reflecting on my own journey, particularly during the early days of my IT career, I realize the transformative power of generosity. In this blog post, I want to share the personal and enthusiastic insights I have gained, drawing inspiration from the examples of Jesus, successful individuals, and the undeniable reciprocity of giving.
Breaking Free from the Chains of Competition
As a young professional starting my career, I immersed myself in an environment where knowledge and information were closely guarded commodities. The prevailing belief was that success depended on hoarding expertise and staying one step ahead of colleagues.
In the fiercely competitive environment of the IT industry, it was easy to succumb to the belief that hiding information and guarding knowledge was the key to success. However, I soon discovered that this mindset was a grave error. Instead of hoarding knowledge, I learned the immeasurable value of sharing, collaborating, and supporting my colleagues.
By shifting from a mindset of scarcity to one of abundance, I fostered stronger professional relationships and found greater fulfillment in helping others succeed.
My transformative journey of mindset changing was based on three pillars:
1) Observing successful individuals worldwide;
2) The result of being contrarian to the apparent status quo in the scenario;
3) Learning directly from Jesus Christ.
Lessons from Successful Individuals
Time and time again, successful individuals from various walks of life have discovered that it is indeed more blessed to give than receive. They have recognized that genuine success transcends material possessions and accolades, finding fulfillment in making a positive impact on the lives of others. Whether it’s philanthropy, mentorship, or acts of kindness,
these individuals understand that the accurate measure of their success lies in the transformative power of giving.
Two names that come to my mind when I remember my initial thoughts about this theme in my career are Warren Buffett and Bill Gates.
Warren Buffett is, a renowned investor and philanthropist, exemplifies the power of long-term thinking. His patient and strategic approach to investments demonstrates that success is not a sprint but a marathon. By carefully selecting investments with a long-term view, Buffett encourages us to focus on sustainable growth, patience, and the creation of lasting value. He reminds us that true success is built on steadfast principles, integrity, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Bill Gates, the visionary co-founder of Microsoft, has revolutionized the world through his pioneering spirit and relentless pursuit of innovation. His commitment to technological advancements and global philanthropy highlights the transformative power of ideas. Gates teaches us that success lies in creating groundbreaking solutions and leveraging those advancements to make a meaningful impact on society. He challenges us to think beyond ourselves and harness our talents to uplift others.
The Reciprocity of Giving
Contrary to conventional wisdom, giving is not a one-sided act. When we extend kindness, support, and resources to others, we open ourselves to receiving abundant blessings. The act of giving fosters deep connections, gratitude, and a sense of fulfillment within us. Moreover, “the universe” has a beautiful way of reciprocating our generosity, often presenting us with unexpected opportunities, relationships, and moments of serendipity.
The experience acquired during my career proved that once you understand that
a valuable professional has nothing to worry about, the market will always need someone excellent;
sharing can only benefit the person who gives because it will affect the entire environment, not only the person who receives it.
The Divine Example: Jesus’ Selfless Giving
The most profound examples of giving comes from the life and teachings of Jesus. He exemplified selflessness by giving himself entirely for the sake of humanity. His compassion, forgiveness, and sacrificial love serve as a guiding light, reminding us of the immeasurable blessings that arise from a heart open to giving. Being created in God’s image, we can tap into a divine source of joy and purpose by imitating His selfless nature. Following Jesus of Nazareth is the most transformative journey that anyone could engage, the treasures found in this path are much more valuable than any other thing and that is enough to fulfill the human angry soul.
